Mercury Cougar (MN12). 1989–97 (prod. 566,382). 2-door coupé. F/R, 3797 cm³ (V6 OHV), 4601 cm³ (V8 OHC), 4942 cm³ (V8 OHV). All-new Cougar, still with formal roofline and still twinned with Ford Thunderbird (1989–97). No V8s initially, with XR7 featuring supercharged V6. V8 returned for 1991. New interior 1994, along with OHC V8 (best engine of the lot) replacing traditional Windsor block, facelift 1996. Plush and soft, and not even XR7 could be deemed sporting.
