Latest revision as of 08:33, 16 February 2011Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren. 2003–9 (prod. 2,153). 2-door coupé, 2-door convertible. M/R, 5439 cm³ (V8 OHC). Supercar wearing the three-pointed star but built by McLaren in the UK, as the two companies already cooperated in the 2000s on racing. At the time it finished production, the most successful production car built on a carbon chassis. Initials recall 1950s 300 SLR. Active aerodynamics, hand-built AMG supercharged engine. Half-scissor, half-gullwing doors. Small boot, steering not the most communicative, but buyers cared little for its quirks and more for its exclusivity. Special 722 edition in 2006, heavier roadster launched 2007. Mercedes-Benz and McLaren went their separate ways in 2008 and the SLR finished soon after: coupés to 2007, roadster to 2009, with 722S finishing the line.
Marque: Mercedes-Benz | Successor: Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG
