Mazda followed up its Carol with a larger compact car, previewed at Tokyo 1961. Styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Bertone. The 0·8-litre engine was a larger version of the Carol’s. The van appeared first in 1963, with passenger cars in 1964. One-litre coupé from 1965 with OHC unit; 1·0 OHV from 1967, for sedan and light van. A truck was also developed, but is not covered here. A commercial hit, though soon others would compete in the same sector, notably Toyota with its Corolla.
Marque: Mazda | Model: Mazda Familia | Successor: Mazda Familia (FA3)
