Lotus Esprit S2. 1978–81 (prod. 1,061, plus approx. 147 JPS, 88 S2·2). 2-door coupé. M/R, 1973, 2174 cm³ (4 cyl. DOHC). Improvements to original Esprit, including aerodynamic tweaks such as front spoiler, aiding stability as well. C_d dropped to 0,335. “Ears” behind side windows helped with cooling. Rover SD1 tail-lights. Wider seats inside and other improvements. John Player Special limited edition in 1978–9, in that company’s colours. Larger 2·2 912 engine in S2·2 from 1980 to 1981, with more power and improved fuel economy.
