Heron Sport MJ1.jpg

Heron Sport MJ1. 1983–5 (prod. 25 approx.). 2-door coupé. M/R, 1995 cm³ (I4 DOHC). The brainchild of Ross Baker, a fibreglass car with a bespoke monocoque and patented stainless steel mesh method of adding strength to panels. Obviously inspired by the Lotus Esprit S1 but originally developed around Škoda 110 parts, Ford Escort Mk I windscreen, and a 1·6-litre four; financial backers insisted on a Fiat two-litre, leading to compromises in production. Majority have survived.

Manufacturing location: Rotorua, New Zealand

Marque: Heron
