Mazda expands its presence in the kei car market with a tiny two-door sedan, featuring a reverse-rake rear window, created to rival the Subaru 360, which had proven a hit. First four-passenger Mazda. Four-door model from 1963; four-door Carol 600, with larger engine, built only to 1964, and replaced by larger Familia. Well equipped with a decent ride and, for the class and era, robust, though heavy. Not the best use of space, so fairly cramped inside, especially with Mazda’s insistence on a three-box design. Mid-term changes 1966.
Marque: Mazda | Model: Mazda Carol | Successors: Mazda Familia (1963–8), Mazda Chantez
