OHV), 2175, 2500 cm³ diesel (4 cyl. OHV), 1995, 2165 cm³ petrol (4 cyl. OHC). Replacement for famous Citroën DS, designed by Robert Opron. Considered by Citroën fans to be the last true (pre-Peugeot-takeover) model. Sleek looks contrasted boxy cars of the mid-1970s. Hydropneumatic suspension as before. Original range of 2·0 and 2·2 models. Long-wheelbase Prestige model from 1975, as well as break. Larger 2347 cm³ model from 1977, 2500 diesel from 1978. New two-litre engines from 1979. Commercial Entreprise models from 1984 on bottom end; top model CX 25 GTi Turbo launched this year. Facelift with plastic bumpers in 1985. Saloon production ceased with introduction of XM in 1989, estates built by Heuliez from then till 1991.
