From Autocade
Revision as of 10:10, 6 December 2008Australianized Mitsubishi Galant Σ, taking its name from the Greek letter appended to the Galant name in Japan. Chrysler had no mid-sized offerings at the time, and entered into an arrangement with Mitsubishi to build the Galant Σ at its Adelaide plant. The Sigma replaced the earlier Valiant Galant and the Simca-based Chrysler Centura, the latter having fared poorly in the Australian market-place. The Chrysler badge disappeared in 1980 after Chrysler Australia’s assets fell completely under Mitsubishi control and the cars were henceforth called Mitsubishi Sigma.
