Latest revision as of 13:47, 23 November 2013Citroën XM. 1989–2000 (prod. 351,863 sold). 5-door saloon, 5-door estate. F/F, 1998 cm³ petrol, 2088, 2445 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1998 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 2963, 2975 cm³ (V6 OHC), 2946, 2963, 2975 cm³ (V6 DOHC). CX replacement, not quite distinctive enough for Citroën fans, but too odd for mainstream buyers. Still with hydropneumatic self-levelling suspension. Far better built, with partly galvanized shell and computerized suspension management. However, some teething issues with the electrics and electronics, which hurt sales, while oil flow problem on 24V V6s led to camshaft failures. Smallest diesel underpowered; 2·4 diesel thirsty and lacked prestige when compared to the six-cylinder units in German rivals. Shared platform with Peugeot 605.
