Acura MDX (YD1). 2001–6 (prod. n/a). 5-door SUV. F/A, 3471 cm³ (V6 OHC). SUV based on the Honda Odyssey (RL1) platform, and originally planned to succeed the Isuzu-based Honda Passport. After the success of the Toyota Harrier as the Lexus RX in the US, the car was pushed more upmarket, replacing the Isuzu Bighorn-based Acura SLX. Newly developed four-wheel-drive system with five-speed automatic, and more power than Odyssey. Transmission issues for the 2001 model led to a recall. Engine and transmission upgrade for 2003, with a more rigid structure and retuned suspension. Equipment upgrades that year as well. Mid-term refresh for 2004 with new grille and other changes. Exported to Japan and Australia as Honda MDX, with right-hand drive.

Manufacturing location: Alliston, Ontario, Canada

Marque: Acura | Model: Acura MDX | Predecessor: Isuzu Bighorn (1991–2002) | Successor: Acura MDX (YD2)
