Zotye (眾泰/众泰) started as a machinery and hardware factory in 1992 before building motorcycles a few years later, then assembling Shanxing cars. In 2005, Zotye began building a clone of the Daihatsu Terios, before adding a licensed Fiat Multipla (197) to its range in 2008. Zotye added more Fiat models, entering the compact car market with versions of the Fiat Palio (178) and Perla. It also acquired Jiangnan of Hunan in 2007. Subsequent Zotyes have had less clear parentage, with the Z100 a clone of the Maruti Suzuki A-star, the Z300 looking like an old Toyota Allion, and the T600 a re-grilled Audi Q5. Created the Traum (Junma) premium brand in 2017, but the venture failed, and Zotye itself declared bankruptcy in December 2020. Only the T300 survived bankruptcy as Zotye found investment from the Zhejiang Provincial State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission and Zhejiang Provincial Financial Holding Group in April 2023. Founder Huang Jihong, no longer a majority shareholder, resigned as chairman in June 2023.
