Zotye (眾泰/众泰) started as a machinery and hardware factory in 1992 before building motorcycles a few years later, then assembling Shanxing cars. In 2005, Zotye began building a clone of the Daihatsu Terios, before adding a licensed Fiat Multipla (197) to its range in 2008. Zotye has since added more Fiat models, entering the compact car market with versions of the Fiat Palio (178) and Perla. It also acquired Jiangnan of Hunan in 2007. Subsequent Zotyes have had less clear parentage, with the Z100 a clone of the Maruti Suzuki A-star, the Z300 looking like an old Toyota Allion, and the T600 a re-grilled Audi Q5.
