Originally V4 at a motor show before Audi objected to the saloon being called S4; the 0 was appended afterwards to get around this. V40 was the estate version of the S40 the first time it appeared, but by 2012, it wound up on a premium hatchback targeting the BMW 1er-Reihe and Audi A3.
