Volvo V50 (MW). 2003–12 (prod. 394,512). 5-door estate. F/F, F/A, 1596, 1798, 1999 cm³ petrol, 1560, 1997 cm³ diesel (I4 DOHC), 1984, 2400 cm³ diesel, 2435, 2521 cm³ petrol (I5 DOHC). Estate version of S40, mechanically identical to saloon. Well designed interior with “floating” centre console inspired by electronics and clean Swedish design, but engines, even the turbocharged ones, not geared for performance: V50, instead, tended toward the family buyer keener on economy with its gradual power delivery. Firm ride and decent handling, but not overtly sporting.
