F/F, F/A, 1595, 1781, 1984 cm³ petrol, 1896 cm³ diesel (4 cyl. OHC), 1390, 1598, 1781 cm³ (4 cyl. DOHC), 2324 cm³ (V5 OHC), 2324 cm³ (V5 DOHC), 2792, 3189 cm³ (V6 DOHC). More grown-up Golf, with large C-pillar, though cabriolet a facelifted Mk III. With this model, Volkswagen moved upmarket with a premium small car as Seat and Škoda filled original slot. R32 the ultimate model with 3·2-litre 24-valve V6. German production ceased in 2006, but Brazilian and Chinese production (as Bora HS) continued. Facelift in 2007 in Brazil, with exports to Canada as City Golf.
