Triumph Herald (Zobo). 1959–71 (prod. 510,614). 2-door saloon, 3-door estate, 2-door convertible, 2-door coupé. F/R, 948, 1147, 1296 cm³ (I4 OHV). Michelotti-styled saloon replacing Standard 8 and 10, with separate chassis forced upon Standard–Triumph when it faced difficulties using its usual body supplier—the arrangement could allow them to turn to smaller body builders. Independent suspension, with rear swing axle with transverse leaf springs; responsive rack and pinion steering, 25 ft turning circle. Engine carried over from the 10. Convertible from 1960, with twin-carb engine. Engine bored out to create 40 bhp 1200 (actually a 1·1), from 1961. Estate later in 1961, disc-brake option from October. De luxe 12/50 appeared in 1963, with the 1·1 tweaked to develop 51 bhp, replaced by 13/60 with 61 bhp 1·3 (shared with Triumph 1300), featuring front disc brakes and Vitesse-style grille. Manufactured in India as the Standard Herald.
