Standard Eight. 1953–9 (prod. 136,317). 4-door saloon. F/R, 803 cm³ (4 cyl. OHV). Modern postwar design, fitting in to the bottom of Standard’s range. Cheapest car on sale in Britain when launched, at £481 7s. 6d. Modern specifications: unitary construction, independent front suspension, Girling hydraulic brakes. OHV engine, uprated in 1957. No bootlid for base models; this was introduced in 1957 for Eight Gold Star model. Sliding windows till 1955. Optional overdrive in 1957; Standrive semi-automatic transmission available.
