Opel Rekord. 1982–92 (prod. 1,400,000 incl. Rekord E1, German production only). 4-door saloon, 5-door estate. F/R, 1796, 1998 cm³ petrol, 2244 cm³ diesel (4 cyl. OHC), 1956, 2182 cm³ (4 cyl. CIH), 3791 cm³ (V6 OHV). Facelifted Rekord, looking more aerodynamic with up-to-date styling. Better C_d of 0,36. Mechanical improvements annually with ABS option from 1985. Replaced in Germany by Opel Omega A in 1986. South African production from 1984, when that model was facelifted. LED dashboard from Senator A2 available on upscale models. Commodore absorbed into Rekord range c. 1987. Delta, the South African company that had taken on GM’s assets, lacked the budget to retool for Omega A, and revamped the Rekord E2 in 1988, bringing in various Omega components, including the 2·0 OHC engine. Further revisions in 1991, with 3·8-litre OHV sourced from Holden (and in turn from Buick) with CD and GSi models, and seats from Omega 3000 and Senator B, and dashboard from RHD versions of Senator A.
