Honda Brio/Honda Amaze. 2011 to date (prod. n/a). 4- and 5-door sedan. F/F, 1198, 1339 cm³ (I4 OHC), 1498 cm³ diesel (I4 DOHC). Entry-level Honda hatchback for Asia, smaller than Fit, priced to rival Hyundai i10 and Daewoo Matiz (M300). Neatly packaged, interior well appointed for the price, though not that well assembled. Refined L-series engines, though not the top performers. Good handling and ride, and well suited to Indian roads. Indian-market Brio Amaze four-door diesel from 2013, dynamically better and more economical than its main rival, the Maruti Swift Dzire. Indian-market Brio Amazes eventually dropped the Brio model name.

Buick Enclave. 2008–17 (prod. 287,663 sold in US to end of 2012). 5-door SUV. F/F, F/A, 3564 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Popular crossover SUV, replacing three earlier model lines, Good acceleration from V6, roomy, and far more desirable than predecessors. Smooth ride, and good handling, though not at the top of the class. Minor refresh with equipment upgrades for 2013 model year.

Alfa Romeo 90. 1984–6 (prod. 56,428). 4-door saloon. F/R, 1779, 1962 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 1997, 2493 cm³ (V6 DOHC), 2393 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC). Bertone gave the Alfa Romeo Alfetta (1972–84) an extensive makeover, with crisp ’80s detailing, and electronically adjustable front spoiler. Alfa Romeo fitted the wonderful V6 in 2- and 2·5-litre forms in export markets, and a range of classic four-cylinder twin-cams for the home market. Amazingly short-lived range-topper considering the investment Alfa Romeo put into it. Running to expectations, the 90 failed to sell in any great numbers—especially outside of Italy—despite the dubious joys of an LED segmented tachometer, integrated dashboard mounted briefcase, and speed adjustable front spoiler. And it had all the hallmarks of a desperate stop-gap …
