Hyundai Pony Excel (X1). 1985–6 (prod. unknown). 5-door sedan. F/F, 1298, 1468 cm³ (4 cyl. OHC). Hyundai creates another best seller, with low pricing and attractive Giugiaro styling. Sold as Pony in the UK as Excel name was already used by Lotus; exported to other countries as Excel. In 1986, the Pony tag was finally dropped. Not the most reliable of cars, but helped Hyundai establish itself in the US and Canada. Badge-engineered as Mitsubishi Précis in US market.
