Glas 1700. 1964–7 (prod. 13,791). 4-door saloon, 2-door convertible. F/R, 1682 cm³ (I4 OHC). Mid-sized sedan from Glas, again styled by Frua. Frua had worked on a successor to the Borgward Isabella, but when that company folded, it used some of the ideas for Glas. Influenced by the successful BMW 1500 (Typ 115), the 1700 also had a Hofmeister Knick in the C-pillar. The original 1500 cm³ in the prototype was insufficient for the heavy car, so a 1700 cm³ was installed for production, producing 80 PS. In September 1965, this was uprated to 85 PS. A TS model, developing 100 PS, was also introduced the same month. After the takeover by BMW, the cars were deleted, due to their similarities to the Typ 115. They did, however, have a second life in South Africa as the BMW 1800 GL, 1800 SA and 2000 SA.
Marque: Glas
