F/R, 3984 cm³ petrol, LPG and turbo petrol (6 cyl. DOHC), 5408 cm³ (V8 SOHC 24V), 5408 cm³ (V8 DOHC 32V). Redesign of maligned AU series on the same platform, but with more conventional Audi-like front and rear ends. Carryover doors. Revisions had cost Ford A$500 million. Falcon finally found sales’ success; in some cases, BA dynamically superior, especially XR6 Turbo, to Holden Commodore of these years. Futura featured no Falcon badge but always marketed as part of range. XR8 with DOHC V8. Added sequential automatic and ABS; Control Blade independent rear suspension for sedan (wagon retained live rear axle). IRS contributed to weight gain. Mid-term revisions in October 2004 with more standard equipment, new six-speed transmission for XR. Some quality niggles.
