Ford Falcon (BA).jpg

Ford Falcon/Ford Futura (EA169). 2002–5 (prod. 196,023 sold in Australia only). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon, 2-door utility. F/R, 3984 cm³ petrol, 3984 cm³ LPG (I6 DOHC), 5408 cm³ (V8 OHC), 5408 cm³ (V8 DOHC). Redesign of maligned AU series on the same platform, but with more conventional Audi-like front and rear ends. Carryover doors. Revisions had cost Ford A$500 million. Falcon finally found sales’ success; in some cases, BA dynamically superior, especially XR6 Turbo, to Holden Commodore of these years. Futura featured no Falcon badge but always marketed as part of range. XR8 with DOHC V8. Added sequential automatic and ABS; Control Blade independent rear suspension for sedan (wagon retained live rear axle). IRS contributed to weight gain. Mid-term revisions in October 2004 with more standard equipment, new six-speed transmission for XR. Some quality niggles.
