Ford Explorer (U251). 2006–10 (prod. n/a). 5-door SUV. F/R, F/A, 3958 cm³ (V6 OHC), 4942 cm³ (V8 OHC). Significant revisions for Explorer, enough to warrant a separate development code. Stiffer frame and new shocks, as well as sound deadening, all aimed at making Explorer more comfortable. Interior improved, though some materials still low-grade. Improved ride and handling, though still truck-like. Revised, cleaner V6, though still lacking in power, while three-valve V8 replaced two-valve version. Fuel economy remained poor, with either engine. Road Stability Control now standard throughout range. LHD only. Twinned with Mercury Mountaineer (2006–10).
