Fiat Grande Punto/Fiat Punto/Fiat Punto Evo (Progetto 199/Progetto 310). 2005 to date (prod. over 1,000,000 approx.). 3- and 5-door saloon. F/F, 1242, 1368, 1598, 1747, 1796 cm³ petrol, 1368 cm³ CNG, 1910 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC), 1248, 1598 cm³ diesel, 1368 cm³ petrol (I4 DOHC). Attractive, Giugiaro-styled compact car, supplementing Fiat Punto (188). Maserati 3200 GT-like front end, as small cars took on sporting design features. Good handling with good ride, though noisier than some, depending on engine. Italian production to 2009; Brazilian (as Fiat Punto) and Indian production from 2007 and 2009 respectively, a simpler car more related to the Palio in terms of suspension geometry, and much cheaper interior materials, despite similar exterior looks. Brazilian models equipped at top end from 2011 with 1598 and 1747 cm³ E-Torq engines (the latter badged 1·8), developments of the Tritec units that powered the Mini and Chrysler PT Cruiser. Took over from 199 in many markets in 2012, and facelifted Indian version in 2014 called Punto Evo.
