Chevrolet Cobalt. 2005–10 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 2-door coupé. F/F, 1998, 2189, 2196, 2376 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Relative to the Opel Astra H, on the GM Delta platform, Cobalt challenged compacts such as the Honda Civic (2005–12) in US. Twinned with Pontiac G5. Dumpy-looking sedan (especially when compared with equivalent Astra) paired with more attractive coupé. Larger 2·4 VVT unit available from 2006 to 2008; supercharged two-litre deleted after 2007; 2196 cm³ Family II engine, available from the start, deleted at end of 2008 model year. Turbocharged two-litre from 2008 to 2010 model years. Known for a good ride, though not particularly sporting with a lack of feel. Middle-of-the-road in most respects. XFE, fuel economy model offered from 2009, delivered 37 mpg (US), considered miserly, without skimping on features when compared to other models.
