The Eldorado nameplate first emerged as a model in the Series 62 line in 1953, and remained in various Cadillac series through to the 1960s, though the 1963–4 run saw its first emergence on its own (though with Fleetwood bodies). An advanced personal-luxury car when relaunched in 1967, but it fell victim to the malaise era quickly, turning into a land yacht in its next generation, and forced to slim down for the one after. It hung in there into 2002 when SUVs became all the rage in the US.
