Pontiac Sunbird Coupé.jpg

Pontiac Sunbird (J-car). 1985–94 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon, 2- and 3-door coupé, 2-door convertible. F/F, 1835, 1999 cm³ (I4 OHC), 3097 cm³ (V6 OHV). The 2000 gets another new name, though it would retain the Sunbird tag till production ended after the 1994 model year. Much the same as before initially, though Pontiac marketing began pushing the performance angle more strongly—though the cars were never really up to it in terms of handling or agility. GT with turbocharged engine from 1986, which didn’t really solve the performance issues. Retractable headlamps on some models from 1988½, and new dashboard from 1989. Wagon dropped for 1989. Another facelift for 1990. Turbo four replaced in 1991 by V6, multi-point fuel injection for two-litre four in 1992. Gradual reduction in the range as it neared the end of its life.
