From AutocadePontiac GTO. 1968–71 (prod. 210,832). 2-door hardtop coupé, 2-door convertible. F/R, 400, 455 in³ (V8 OHV). Redesigned GM A-bodies for 1968. Curvaceous sheetmetal, continuing the muscle-car formula of the first generation. Body-colour Endura front bumper as standard. Ram Air II option for 1968, updated to Ram Air III for 1969, with increased power. The Judge package appeared for the first time in 1969, with Ram Air III engine, Hurst shifter, wider tyres and rear spoiler. Ram Air IV top option for 1969, rated at 370 hp. Facelift for 1970 along with Tempest, with suspension upgrade, anti-roll bar, and variable-ratio power steering. New option of 455 HO engine for 1970, though interest in muscle cars was beginning to wane in the new decade. Minor facelift for 1971; Ram Air options vanished, and compression ratios dropped as GM prepared its engines for unleaded fuel. Sales continued to decline (a mere 10,532 in this final year, versus 87,865 in 1968) and the GTO returned to being a package rather than its own line.
