From AutocadeFord Taunus 17M (P3). 1960–4 (prod. 669,731). 2- and 4-door saloon, 3-door estate, 2-door convertible. F/R, 1498, 1698, 1758 cm³ (I4 OHV). American excesses gone in favour of something more practical, designed under Uwe Bahnsen. Convertibles by Karl Deutsch. No more tailfins, instantly rendering its predecessor old hat. Nicknamed the Badewannetaunus, or bathtub Taunus, with oval theme recurring throughout the car. Lozenge-shaped headlights, very distinctive at launch (the Citroën Ami being the other exemplar). Automatic choke a novelty at the time. Very successful for Ford, helping it narrow the gap with the Opel Rekord P2.
