Dodge Monaco. 1965–9 (prod. 1,768 sold in South Africa only). 4-door sedan, 4-door hardtop sedan, 2-door coupé, 2-door convertible, 5-door wagon. F/R, 225 in³ (I6 OHV), 318, 383, 440 in³ (V8 OHV). Dodge’s top line, made in various forms in North America and South Africa. Originally a coupé conceived to fight the Pontiac Grand Prix (1965–8) in the US with the 383 in³ V8, and offered as a coupé or convertible in Canada, but with the six as a base engine, complemented by the 318 in³. Range expanded for 1966 to include sedans and wagon; original Monaco became Monaco 500. Facelift for 1967 in North America, with semi-fastback appearance for coupés. Production ended for North America after the 1968 model year; the sedan continued till 1969 in South Africa.
