Chrysler Valiant Regal (CM).jpg

Chrysler Valiant (CM). 1978–81 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/R, 4015, 4343 cm³ (I6 OHV), 5211 cm³ (V8 OHV). Last Australian Chrysler Valiant. Range rationalized, so no Charger coupé, replaced by GLX sports sedan. Very dated (drum brakes; Cd of 0,55; SCd of 1,226), though lean-burn technology actually meant cars were economical for their size. Mitsubishi took over the plant in 1980, and the cars were supposedly built ‘under licence’ from Chrysler. Upscale model still called Regal, and was the only one exported. CM-41 replacement, under development in the US, never materialized after Chrysler withdrew from Australia.

Manufacturing location: Adelaide, South Australia, Australia

Marque: Chrysler | Model: Chrysler Valiant | Predecessor: Chrysler Valiant (CL) | Successor: Mitsubishi Magna (1985–91)
