BMW X5 4·4.jpg

BMW X5 (E53). 1999–2006 (prod. n/a). 5-door SUV. F/A, 2926, 2993 cm³ diesel, 2979 cm³ petrol (I6 DOHC), 4398, 4619, 4799 cm³ (V8 DOHC). BMW enters the SUV market, though it called its X5 an SAV—Sports Activity Vehicle. Made at its South Carolina factory, and primarily aimed at the US. Far more sporting than its rivals, with excellent handling considering its high centre of gravity, and rearward bias so X5 felt like a rear-wheel-drive BMW. Familiar cabin. Hill Descent Control from Land Rover, which BMW had acquired during the X5’s development. Mid-term changes 2003.

Manufacturing locations: Greer, South Carolina, USA

Marque: BMW | Model: BMW X5 | Successor: BMW X5 (E70)
