VAZ 2108 (ВАЗ-2108). 1984–2003 (prod. n/a). 3-door saloon. F/F, 1099, 1288, 1499, 1568 cm³ (I4 OHC), 2 × 654 cm³ Wankel. First all-new AvtoVAZ offering since the firm started building the original Zhiguli. Modern hatchback, front-wheel drive, engines with Porsche input. Seemed very modern at launch, but increasingly behind the times as the 1990s and 2000s unfolded. Has its fans, who like the ruggedness, but never caught on the same way as Zhiguli in export markets, where it was called the Lada Samara. Basic model had 1·3, while 21081 had 1·1, 21083 had 1·5, and 21084 the 1·6. Rotary model, VAZ 2108-91, fitted with VAZ 415 unit made for official and competition use.
