B-segment supermini, replacing Starlet in many markets, and exported variously as Echo and Yaris. Original model, styled in Europe, was complemented by a booted version called Platz, and a minivan called FunCargo; the second generation had a booted complement called Belta. A very strong contender in the supermini market, with excellent use of space, and one of Toyota’s best performers in the first decade of the 21st century. In 2020, Toyota consolidated the Vitz and Yaris nameplates, with Yaris adopted for the home market as well.
