Toyota Carina (A40/TA40/TA47/A50). 1977–81 (prod. n/a). 2- and 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon, 2-door coupé. F/R, 1588, 1770 cm³ (I4 OHV), 1972 cm³ (I4 OHC), 1968 cm³ (I4 DOHC). Bread-and-butter Japanese family car, sharing platform with Celica and Corona. Positioned between Corolla and Corona in most markets. Mid-term facelift 1979. Fuel injection added for 1·8; Carina GT with two-litre DOHC. Formed the basis of the Toyota Celica Camry.
