Nissan Cedric GX Hardtop.jpg

Nissan Cedric/YLN-802/YLN-902 (230). 1971–6 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon, 2-door coupé, 4-door hardtop sedan. F/R, 1982 cm³ petrol, 1991, 2164 cm³ diesel (I4 OHV), 1998, 2393, 2565 cm³ (I6 OHC). Boxy, more substantial third-generation Cedric, usually exported as Datsun 200C, 220C, 240C or 260C, depending on the engine, and now twinned with the Gloria, though positioned slightly downmarket from it. Popular for taxi usage. Front-wheel independent double-wishbone suspension, with rigid leaf springs at rear. Sedan, wagon and coupé initially. Mid-term changes 1972. Hardtop sedan added later in 1972, designed to counter the Toyota Crown two-door coupé. With its Gloria twin, the 230 saw off the Crown, thanks to its more conservative styling, but it proved to be the only time Nissan was successful against its larger competitor. Japanese production to 1975; Taiwanese production at YLN for one more year thereafter.
