MG GS. 2014–19 (prod. n/a). 5-door SUV. F/F, F/A, 1498, 1995 cm³ (I4 DOHC). MG’s first SUV, styled in the UK and China by Ajay Jain who saw it to production under Anthony Williams-Kenny and Shao Jinfeng. Launch 2·0 turbo of British design, developing 162 kW (217 bhp). New scalable platform (with sizeable 2,650 mm wheelbase) developed by SAIC, which could have applications for larger SUVs. Interior materials not the best, though assembly first-rate; steering lacked feedback. However, GS proved roomy and practical, with pluses for its dual-clutch gearbox. Platform shared with Roewe RX5 (2016–22). Revised front bumper and deeper grille from 2017.
