From AutocadeFord Taurus (DN5). 1986–91 (prod. n/a). 4-door sedan, 5-door wagon. F/F, 2496 cm³ (I4 OHV), 2987, 3797 cm³ (V6 OHV), 2986 cm³ (V6 DOHC). Ford’s jelly-mould designs hit Stateside for 1986 model year, with an elegant and sleek sedan and wagon replacing the very conservative LTD. Ford set out to beat its competition, right down to the part, in developing the Taurus, which instantly became a sales’ hit. Essex 3·8 V6 added in 1988. SHO engine developed with Yamaha, sporting sedan released for 1989. Twinned with Mercury Sable (1986–91). New interior 1990. Limited exports of the wagon to Europe, where the Granada Turnier had been deleted from Ford’s line-up.
