De Tomaso Mangusta.jpg

De Tomaso Mangusta. 1967–71 (prod. 401). 2-door coupé. M/R, 4728, 4949 cm³ (V8 OHV). Flawed but pretty coupé with gullwing “doors” revealing engine bay, styled by Giorgetto Giugiaro at Ghia. Ford V8 in the bay, earlier 289 in³ allegedly more powerful. Poor weight distribution (44–56 front–rear) leading to tricky handling. Pop-up headlights for US export models from 1969. Single car built with Chevrolet 327 in³ engine for GM’s Bill Mitchell, and one convertible.

Manufacturing location: Modena, Emilia-Romagna, Italy

Marque: De Tomaso | Predecessor: De Tomaso Vallelunga | Successor: De Tomaso Pantera
