Austin 2200HL.jpg

Austin 1800/Austin 2200 (ADO71/18-22). 1975 (prod. 19,137 incl. Morris and Wolseley). 4-door saloon. F/F, 1798 cm³ (I4 OHV), 2226 cm³ (I6 OHC). Austin version of ADO71 or Project Diablo, replacing “Landcrab” 1800 and 2200 models. Identical to Morris version apart from trim and badging, and grille is plainer with trapezoidal headlamps, shared with later Princess 2200. Usual quality problems highlighted by negative UK press, though car exceptionally roomy. Not many survive because of months-long production run before renaming as Princess.

Manufacturing location: Cowley, Oxfordshire, England

Marque: Austin| Predecessors: Austin 1800 Mk III, Austin 2200 | Successor: Princess (1975–8)

q.v. Morris 1800, 2200 (1975), Wolseley (18-22)
