From legitimate Fiat licensee to rip-off merchant, Zotye began selling its SR9 SUV in April 2017, with looks clearly copied from the Porsche Macan, scaled up slightly. Front-wheel drive only, with Mitsubishi turbo delivering 190 PS; 1·8 expected after launch. Six-speed dual-clutch auto as standard. Quality not near Porsche’s, though overall Zotye was improving. By this point, the Chinese media were unimpressed with piracy, and Zotye was in for criticism.
