Opel Speedster.jpg

Vauxhall VX220. 2000–5 (prod. 7,207). 2-door roadster. M/R, 1998, 2198 cm³ (I4 DOHC). To all intents and purposes, a rebodied Lotus Elise, made at Hethel, but with GM engines instead of Rover ones. GM had helped fund the Series 2 Elise, and got its own version, for sale as Vauxhall VX220 in the home market (where it was released first) and Opel Speedster on the Continent (from March 2001). Fibreglass construction as with Elise, but with more creature comforts, though still very sporting and quick. Optional detachable hardtop.

Manufacturing location: Hethel, Norfolk, England

Marque: Vauxhall | Successor: Saturn Sky
