From AutocadeToyota Carina (TA10/TA12/TA14/TA15/TA16/TA17/TA18/TA19/TA30/TA31/TA32/RA10/RA11/RA13/RA14/RA15/RA16/RA17/RA30/RA31). 1970–7 (prod. n/a). 2- and 4-door sedan, 2-door coupé, 5-door van. F/R, 1407, 1588 cm³ (I4 OHV), 1588 cm³ (I4 DOHC), 1770, 1808, 1968 cm³ (I4 OHC). Model range filling the gap between the Corolla and Corona, and sharing its chassis with the Celica. Supposedly sportier in flavour than larger Corona, and quite well equipped for export markets. Sold at Toyota Stores in the home market, though also available via Toyopet in Tokyo and Osaka. Distinctive grille, with inner headlights surrounded by it. DOHC engine from Celica introduced 1971. Minor changes in 1972, and deletion of column-shift models. Hardtop coupé from December 1972, with different grille and front doors from RT90 Corona coupé, and equipped with front disc brakes. All models got the coupé’s grille from 1974, and two-litre models added. Low-emission 2·0 from 1975 (with the lean-burn technology expanding to 1·6 in 1976). A30 series facelift in October 1975, with larger bodies, longer wheelbase (as with Celica), and new interior; 1·4 deleted at this time. Vans added in December 1975, with small sixth light and rear door from Corolla 30; sometimes exported as Carina wagon. The 1·8 OHC appeared in 1977.
