Simca 1100/Simca 1200/Talbot 1100/Talbot 1200 (Projet 928). 1967–82 (prod. 2,188,737). 3- and 5-door saloon, 5-door estate. F/F, 944, 1118, 1204, 1294 cm³ (I4 OHV). Pioneering hatchback with transverse engine and front-wheel drive. Front disc brakes, rack-and-pinion steering. The 1100 Special had the larger 1·2 (from 1970) and 1·3 (from 1972) units; 1·3 TI from 1974. Called 1200 in Spain from 1975, and when Peugeot took over Chrysler’s European operations, the Talbot brand was used from 1979. Noisy, but with the larger engines, quick. Formed the basis of the Matra–Simca Rancho as well as the 1100’s successor.
