Innocenti Austin A40S
From AutocadeInnocenti Austin A40S. 1962–7 (prod. 34,242; 67,706 incl. Series 1 and 2). F/R, 1098 cm³ (I4 OHV). 2- and 3-door saloon. Whereas the earlier Innocenti Austin A40 1° and 2° serie had been largely facsimiles of the UK A40 Farina model, following that model’s change in wheelbase, the A40S gained the latter A40 Farina’s larger engine, with one significant change: the UK car’s two-piece tailgate became a single, upward-opening door for the Combinata model, creating BMC’s first hatchback. Sales for the Combinata shot up, and became the best selling Innocenti Austin A40 type.
Marque: Innocenti | Predecessor: Austin A40 Farina Mk II | Successor: Innocenti Austin I4
