Fiat Multipla (Tipo 197). 1998–2010 (prod. n/a). 5-door MPV. F/F, 1596 cm³ petrol, 1596 cm³ CNG (I4 DOHC), 1910 cm³ diesel (I4 OHC). Distinctive six-seat MPV, created with uniqueness in mind. Revived Multipla nameplate from the 1950s and 1960s. Fiat’s design direction was to reinterpret the MPV, and ensure Multipla would not wind up looking like the same-again box. Two-row, three-abreast seating with multiple configurations and unusual dash were practical, and Multipla won numerous awards. Opinion on its looks was polarizing—and usually in favour of the negative. Actually quite a good handler, thanks to Bravo underpinnings, and overall length was around the same as a family hatchback. Facelift in 2004, to normalize its looks. Never took off in China, where rights were sold to Zotye for its M300 model.
