From AutocadeAustin A40 Farina/Innocenti Austin A40. 1958–61 (prod. 169,612 UK only). 2-door saloon, 3-door estate. F/R, 948 cm³ (I4 OHV). Smart looking small Austin, with many A35 mechanical components carried over, and sharp new body by Battista ‘Pinin’ Farina. Wider track than predecessor. Countryman, from 1959, an early hatchback, with fold-down tailgate and lift-up rear window, regarded at the time as an estate. Dynamically not as great as the Farina lines suggested, but fairly reliable. Also licensed for manufacture by Innocenti from 1960, initially with CKD kits before full production there.
