Alfa Romeo 2600 Berlina
From AutocadeAlfa Romeo 2600 (Tipo 106). 1962–9 (prod. 2,092). 4-door saloon. F/R, 2584 cm³ (I6 DOHC). Successor to the Tipo 102, with all-alloy DOHC inline six, the last time Alfa Romeo produced such an engine. Twin Solex carburettors, good for 130 PS. Externally a facelift of the 2000, even the brand-new powerplant could not boost sales, and the saloon sold poorly. Nose-heavy due to the larger, heavier engine. Initially disc brakes at the front—innovative at the time—and drums at the rear, before discs all round from autumn 1964. Not directly replaced till the late 1970s.
