Škoda Superb. 2001–8 (prod. unknown). 4-door saloon. F/F, 1781, 1984 cm³ petrol (4 cyl.), 1896 (74, 77, 85, 96 kW), 1968 cm³ diesel (4 cyl.), 2771 cm³ petrol (V6), 2496 (114, 120 kW) cm³ diesel (V6). Czech rebody of Red Chinese long-wheelbase Volkswagen Passat, developed for the Czech president—it was felt a stretched Octavia was not fitting. Very roomy—reported to have more legroom than a Mercedes-Benz S-Klasse at launch—and very cheap, although dynamically not much different from Passat. Favoured not just by one president, but by British minicab drivers who appreciate the space and value; excellent fuel economy from diesels. Mild facelift 2006; Laurin & Klement trim added that year, harking back to one of Škoda’s forebears.

Manufacturing location: Kvasiny, Czech Republic

Marque: Škoda | Model: Škoda Superb | Successor: Škoda Superb (2008–)
